Then, one rainy night, Alejandro found messages on Valeria's phone from Dr. Emiliano Vargas.
“Did you tell him/her yet?”
“You have a right to know.”
Instead of listening, Alexander accused her of betrayal.
Valeria asked him to sit down and listen to the truth.
He refused.
A month later, she signed the divorce papers, taking no money, no property, no stock—just a suitcase, her notebooks, and the secret she refused to hear.
Now, five years later, Alejandro studied it.
“You disappeared.”
“I survived.”
"With the?"
Valeria turned towards the window.
“Are you still asking the wrong question?”
When they landed in Monterrey, Valeria tried to breathe. Her children were waiting for her. That was all that mattered.
Outside the airport, a black Bentley approached.
Three small children ran towards him.
"Mother!"
Valeria's face softened instantly. One hugged her. Another took her hand. The youngest clung to her legs, laughing.
Are you really still alone, Valeria? I thought five years would be enough time to get over my loss.
Valeria looked up from her book and the atmosphere inside the first-class cabin seemed to tense up.
Beside her was Alejandro Montes de Oca, her ex-husband, the wealthy solar energy entrepreneur whose last name opened doors for him throughout Mexico.
But Valeria didn't see the millionaire.
